Whether you are dating, engaged or married, date night is always a great idea. You and your partner are together for a reason – at some point you decided you liked each other’s company quite a bit. While it might be a little easier for me and Zack to have a date night right now because we don’t have kids, there are still challenges. Money is always a big one, and I’m sure it is for most regardless of income level. We also have our dogs, so as much as we would like to go on an overnight trip somewhere we can’t do it without a bit of planning. So here are five relatively easy, and mostly inexpensive date night ideas.
Go explore somewhere new.
I’m pretty sure that there is somewhere cool where you live, that you haven’t been yet. So many people I know wait until people come visit them to explore where they live. Because I have moved so many times in my life I have a real affinity for exploring all an area has to offer. I love going for hikes in parks and forests. Sometimes I find them on google, sometimes I find them by looking at geotags on instagram. In addition to taking in some new sights, you might get some exercise in together which a healthy couple = a happy couple.
Cook a fancy dinner together.
Now, I know that this might not be for everyone. Zack doesn’t really care to cook, and I do. For some though, I’ve heard it can be really fun. Whip up your favorite meal from your favorite restaurant or try a brand new food together. You could also dress up in what you might wear out to an expensive restaurant and bring that ambiance home with some significant savings.
Volunteer somewhere.
Donating your time somewhere as a team will make you feel good, but also you will be doing good for your community. How you choose to spend this time will vary widely depending on where you live but things like the Humane Society, soup kitchens, libraries, retirement communities, and Habitat for Humanity are all good places to start.
Have a game night.
Zack and I love game night. Sometimes it’s just the two of us playing scrabble or boggle (we have a whole notebook just for our scrabble scores) or playing along with the Jeopardy contestants. Sometimes we invite our friends over and we all play games like Buzzword or Cards Against Humanity. Our hall closet looks like the game aisle at Target lol. We love it because its fun, it’s competitive, but you are also using brain power with some games like Trivial Pursuit.
Mini Golf or Bowling.
These two are also favorites of ours. Both can be really fun, and not just because they are inexpensive. Zack and I went mini golfing on our first official date, so now we go every year on our anniversary. This year we had to postpone because it was still so cold and everything was covered in snow, but it’s something we look forward to. Its fun finding new courses, who knows what planet you will show up to 😉

We had just finished dinner and were on our way to mini golf 🙂
