I know that Thanksgiving isn’t until tomorrow, but I’m going to be slaving away in the kitchen tomorrow making some awesome grub. My dad who lives a few hours away and his wife will be driving down tonight and I will be spending the holiday with them. I can’t wait to eat my favorite dish- green bean casserole, without the griping and moaning of my husband who thinks that the dish should be abolished from the menu. I say he can keep his gross broccoli casserole and leave all the green bean casserole for me. He’s crazy.
I know a lot of people throughout this month have been posting what they are thankful for on social media but I often wonder how many things we take for granted that are forgotten. I will not be able to spend Thanksgiving with my husband, as he’s currently deployed overseas. While I’m SO lucky to experience this easy deployment where communication is daily and we do get to facetime at times, I have experienced hard deployments where I don’t get emails everyday, no phonecalls, and sometimes weeks of wondering where he is and what’s going on. I know that is a reality for MANY families this holiday, and everyday throughout the year. I urge you to keep both those service members and their families in your thoughts tomorrow when you are clinking toasts of wine and cider with your loved ones.
Something that my husband and I like to do are random acts of kindness. We like to do them all throughout the year, and try to do one everyday but sometimes we are busy or circumstances prevent us from doing so. They don’t have to be large acts, but even small things like feeding the meter for someone, leaving a server a nice note with their tip, smiling at a stranger. You never know what the power of a small act can do for someone’s life. We all have dark times, and sometimes are too scared or ashamed to ask for help. I think that these acts are a great way to give thanks, and to just pass on a positive spirit. I can guarantee it will warm your heart and give you the feeling of the holidays all year round.
I hope everyone has a fantastical holiday!
