I love Christmas and the holiday season. Putting up the Christmas tree, lights, decorations, wrapping presents. The list goes on. I love getting together with friends, and baking holiday cookies, all of it! I thought I would let you guys know some of my favorites to watch and listen to.
MOVIES
It’s A Wonderful Life – I mean obviously. My parents really liked this movie when I was a kid, and I was always like ew black and white. Pass the Rudolph please. But I started to appreciate it when I was a teenager, and now I have to watch it AT LEAST once every Christmas much to the dismay of Zack. He thinks it’s depressing. Also, the reason Buffalo Girls is stuck in my head for about 6 weeks after haha. Also, NEVER watch the version that has been colorized in technicolor. It’s weird. I bought a dvd that had that as a bonus. I watched about 20 minutes before I turned it off. I DON’T LIKE IT.
Charlie Brown Christmas – Another one I’ve been watching since I was a kid. I think if I had to choose a cartoon to watch, I would choose this one over Rudolph, Frosty or the Grinch. Don’t get me wrong I love those too but Charlie Brown is just more my style. Plus, the music is great. I actually have the soundtrack and it’s one of my favorite cds to listen to around this time of year.
MUSIC
Do They Know It’s Christmas – Band Aid (1984) – Okay, this might seem like an odd choice. It’s actually a really sad song, but I think it’s a really great reminder that Christmas just isn’t us. The season of giving, and there are so many less fortunate that we can’t forget about. Plus.. 80’s AWESOMENESS.
Christmas Song – Alvin & The Chipmunks – I know this song drives a lot of people batty but I LOVE this song. It just makes me giggle and so happy.
Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree – Brenda Lee – Probably my most “traditional” Christmas fave. This one just makes me want to dance. I’m not going to lie, it makes me think of the “party” Kevin throws in Home Alone and when he makes the mannequins move around by dancing and Michael Jordan is on that toy train.
Christmas in Hollis – Run DMC – It may surprise you but I actually used to listen to a LOT of hip hop & rap music. People are frequently surprised when my music is plugged in and Tech N9ne starts playing. I love old school hip hop (it’s so sad what I like is now old) and Run DMC’s Christmas song is one of my faves.
UN-FAVORITES
Eggnog – It’s gross guys. I don’t know how you drink it. I don’t like the taste but I also can’t get the vision of drinking egg yolks out of my mind when I look at it. Nope!
Black Friday – To be fair, when you have worked somewhere like Best Buy (like I did for 5 long years) on this day it is easily ruined. Plus, I’m not a person who loves crowds or lines so no thanks. I’ll just shop online and have everything come to me!
Ugly Xmas Sweater – This isn’t more of a dislike but more of a not into it? Maybe I just don’t get it? Plus now, it used to be like an ironic thing and you had to work to find a sweater. They are everywhere these days. I saw them in Target. Can this be done please?
