So for the past month I have been planning a styled shoot with two of my photographer friends. For those who aren’t in the photography industry, a styled shoot is simply a photographer working with other vendors in the wedding industry – florists, rental companies, bakeries, etc., and creating the elements of a wedding day. It can benefit all involved as the vendors donate or discount their services to whomever is planning the event, and the photographer will supply images that all can use for marketing or press. I loved this event for so many reasons!
First being, I am a creative soul. I have always loved art, and making things. I’ve been the crafty girl since as long as I can remember. I would rather make something I see than buy it. So putting together all of the elements was really fun. Second, obviously I love shooting. And this was a great opportunity because it was vision come to life. Sometimes weddings days can be hectic and you can’t always get the shots you want because of time constraints. Well in this environment it’s much easier because you are in control. There is no wedding going on. Third, I love hanging out with other creative spirits. I can talk to my husband about photography all day long and he gets most of it.. but since he isn’t a photographer, much of it he’s never going to fully understand or be as excited as I am about it. And it’s nice to find those people and talk to them about something in a way only others who are as invested into as you are would understand.
So we had picked an autumn theme, and very DIY feel. Most of the event was put together by myself, Erin of Erin Daniel Photography and Sarah of Sarah Elle Photography. Sarah does not shoot weddings so she was also one of our gorgeous models! We had about 8 other photographers there, and a couple playing bride and groom for us, a details station, and then Sarah as our second bride. This gave everyone the opportunity to practice and shoot different styles and elements. At the end of the night I have to say I was really pleased with how it turned out and was so happy that everyone attended and made the day a success.
I would also like to thank our other vendors:
