Veterans Day has always meant something to me. My father was in the Navy, and my grandfather was in the Navy. It’s kind of fitting that I married a Navy man isn’t it? That wasn’t a goal, it just kind of happened. Funny how things like that work out..
However, I’ve always had a respect for those who sacrifice so much for the rest of us. I know everyday isn’t going off to war but that doesn’t mean they don’t sacrifice a lot. Every service member in my eyes is a brave individual. They don’t know when they join what might happen, or where they might be sent. They usually don’t have much say in where they are going, and it doesn’t matter if they agree with the reasons. They aren’t paid well, and it’s definitely not a glamorous lifestyle. But they do it, because someone has to.
I am blessed to have a life full of these people. There are days where being married to someone in the military sucks. Sometimes you spend holidays or birthdays or anniversaries alone and it’s not fun. But I wouldn’t trade this life I have and the people in it for another one.
So this Veterans day I say thank you to every veteran and active duty service member and their families. Especially my own, he’s half a world a way and I’m missing him very much.
