I can’t believe it’s February! Groundhog day and Super Bowl Sunday is upon us. If I’m being honest, I really have very little invested in the outcome of either. I will be attending a Super Bowl party with my neighbors (who are also good friends). I live on the best street, seriously. I won’t go into too much detail, but I mean.. we have an annual Beer Olympics. #jealous?
Anyways, for this Super Bowl party, I will be bringing cupcakes. Some of you may or may not know, I also have another small business (albeit this one is MUCH smaller) doing cupcake catering. About 2 and a half years ago, I brought cupcakes to work one day for someone’s birthday. Nothing special, but people kind of freaked out. They started demanding I bring cupcakes all the time. I didn’t mind because I love baking, love the smell of cake and the creativity of dreaming up combinations and recipes. I also liked that these treats were something that don’t sit around in my house eyeing me and begging for me to eat them and go straight to my rear. Many of my coworkers started asking if they could order cupcakes for parties, and how I should open a bakery. Even though I like baking, I do NOT want to own a bakery. I think it would suck all the joy out of it for me. So I decided to just do “cupcake catering” as I call it. You can order cupcakes for parties and events, I make a dozen (or 5) and then I’m done for the day! The funniest part is.. I don’t like cake. I know, it’s weird. “Who doesn’t like cake??” is something that is a common response. Well that person is me; never have, never will.
I think I enjoy it because it’s a form of art to me. Thinking up the recipe (I rarely use recipes and often don’t really formally measure anything, and I don’t use a timer.. I just know when they are done), creating the perfect color and design for the frosting, etc. It is just another way for me to express my creativity and put it out there in the world.
