It’s been a few weeks since I have published one of these blogs but I felt like there really wasn’t too much that was terribly interesting happening in my life. I was thinking though that instead of #selfie blogs just being on Sundays.. I will post them when I have something I want to share! So maybe more than once a week, maybe less.
This weekend, I worked on a home project. I actually love doing things like this, and DIY stuff. When Zack and I got married, I practically DIY’ed the whole thing on my own!
So, we own our home and it’s a great little house with one glaring problem (in my eyes). UGLY UGLY kitchen cabinets. I hate them. They are old, and dated, two-toned and awful. So, I’m finally getting around to changing that. A big reason I the off white color bothered me so much, is because our kitchen is yellow. Everything looked so dingy no matter what.
Here is the before:
See how yellow everything looks?
I didn’t undertake this project a while ago because the fronts of our cabinets aren’t wood. They are a weird vinyl/melamine material that I was told couldn’t be painted (it would chip or peel off). Well my mother in law found some paint that would work, we took all the doors off, I spraypainted the hinges and bought hardware to (mostly) match, primed and painted. We painted.. all day. I also bought a countertop paint that was supposed to look like granite. I’m actually still waiting for the top coat to cure so I can put everything back up there.. but I think it turned out pretty nicely!
Here’s the after:
Yes, both my dogs insisted in being in the photos haha. The kitchen is SO much brighter and looks cleaner now, which I love! (Yes – I did use my cutting board over the sink to make my toast this morning). Overall, I’d say it cost about $200 for this project, and a weekend’s worth of time. Well spent in my opinion though 🙂 A big thank you to my mother in law as well for helping me with this project!
Eventually we will get new cabinets, but for now.. this works! 🙂
