“Like a star in the dark of night, like birds lost in flight.
The clouds in the sky are blue, I belong with you.”

Last weekend I drove down to Virginia for Danielle & Katherine’s Virginia Beach oceanfront engagement session. I met Danielle a few years ago when we both used to work for a private university down there. We bonded over a mutual discontent of our job, and talking about many of the oddities and annoyances of our workplace. So earlier this year when Danielle asked for recommendations on a photographer for her wedding, I told her I would be happy to travel down there for them. Luckily for me, they thought that was a great idea too. Sorry VB wedding togs, this cool couple is mine lol. I had made a few suggestions for where to shoot, and coincidentally the north end beach was where Katherine had grown up. The two of them had spent time there together as well so this was the perfect location.
I hadn’t ever met Katherine, so I was excited and a little nervous (but I’m an introvert I always am). Getting to know my couples is one of the reasons I always include at least a mini engagement session though. It’s so important for the three of us to get to know each other. And even for Danielle, it was important for her to get to know me as their wedding photographer rather than just her friend. The session was so much fun though, we spent the whole time just laughing. Danielle and Katherine were very natural behind the camera and their sweetness together was so evident and I honestly didn’t have to do much. I had been worried about the weather, but it turned out to be a beautiful sunny afternoon. The day was perfect for the beach, we also watched another couple get engaged while we were shooting their photos. These two are getting married in just about three months. I can’t wait for your wedding this July ladies!
Having the beach to yourself is always pretty nice.
