“Because, she’s as sweet as Tupelo honey, yes she is. She’s an angel of the first degree”
– Van Morrison
About 10 days before any of my weddings I add the city or town where the venue is to my weather app. Cue obsessively checking weather app to see what it will be like that day. I know the weather can change DRAMATICALLY in 10 days but call me a bit of a planner and a bit of a worrier. I’ve already dreamt up tons of photos I want to take of the two of you and how the light will be. So when Jesse and Kylie told me they were having an Aldworth Manor wedding? Extra heart eyes. I pretty much had spent about 10 minutes in New Hampshire previously, but coupled with the fact that they were getting a historic manor being restored. Super yay. The weather had been saying storms so I was nervous, but the day of their wedding, I pulled up to sunshine. Not a cloud in the sky.
The next thing I noticed after the sunshine and gorgeous grounds was how relaxed Jesse and Kylie were. I said hello to Jesse and he brought me to Kylie. “You’ve seen her today?” I asked. “Oh yeah, I don’t mind if I see her with her hair done, just not the dress.” The two of them were more concerned with making sure their guests were settled in and welcomed. Neither of them seemed at all nervous, just excited and happy it was all happening. It’s nice to see that. It’s what your wedding day should be. The small details don’t really matter too much. At the end of the day, whatever happens happens. The most important thing is the person you’re marrying and the promises you’re about to pledge.
Kylie & Jesse’s wedding though was gorgeous. The venue, guys.. move me in. It kind of looks like some villa out of Europe. There was literally a field of wildflowers next to it. And their families were SO excited for them. It was incredibly sweet. Towards the end of the night some crazy thunderstorms did come rolling in, and while the party got put on hold while they passed (safety first guys), it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits. Kylie was the first person back on the dance floor encouraging everyone to join.
I always love these parent dances because they are so sweet. The image on the right has become particularly meaningful as just this week Jesse’s sweet grandmother passed. I’m so happy I was able to just spend an afternoon and evening in her company, and witness how joyful and full of love and laughter she was. It reminds me how important my job can be, and how lucky I am to capture these sweet moments. We never know when any of us might leave this earth, so tell the people you love how much you love them.
Kylie and Jesse your day was wonderful. I’m so honored to have been a part of it. My hope is that you guys are able to bring that same joy and enthusiasm from your wedding through the rest of your marriage. I have a feeling that it’s going to be a breeze for you though 🙂
A special thank you to Stephanie of West Mountain Photo for being my awesome assistant.
