So last week my good friend Heidi came to visit. If we’re being honest, she was actually in town to do mentoring with the wonderful Justin & Mary over in New Haven. But, I wasn’t complaining because I got to hang out with, and spend time with one of my favorite photographer friends. Heidi and I kind of joke that we are brain twins. We think about things similarly and when we chat about work and ask each other’s opinion, we usually have similar ideas. It’s always nice to have a fellow creative friend who just kind of “gets it”. Being a photographer can be a little lonely sometimes Monday-Friday, when you are sitting at your desk alone. I some days feel like I need to go to the store just to have interaction with another human. (That’s kind of a sad confession lol) So, other photographers who are right there in that same boat of office of one often will use facebook and texting to connect with other photographers. Long-distance chats by the water cooler at work so to speak.
Heidi had never been to Connecticut, so obviously I had to show her around. I’ve lived here a year, so I’m pretty much an expert on the area lol. The first day we went to downtown Mystic and we ate at one of Zack & I’s favorite cafes, and I showed her some of the beautiful houses and the just the town. Then we headed over to Stonington Borough and climbed out onto the jetty at the point and walked through town. It was a super beautiful and mild day so perfect exploring weather. Then we headed over to Harkness Memorial Park because it’s super pretty and there is definitely nothing like it down in VA. Of course, I took some shots of Heidi as well.
The next day we drove down to New Haven and after her mentoring, we ate lunch at Atticus which is across from Yale (thank you J&M for that recommendation it was so good), and we walked over to the campus but didn’t stay long because it basically began pouring. It was fun to just hangout in sweatpants talking business with her afterwards. Its basically what we do most days, just for once we got to do it in the same room. I’m so excited for Heidi’s business and where it’s about to go. I think she’s headed for big and great things and I’m happy to be cheering her on.
